Preliminary Final Draft

In our groups we a preliminary exercise.
This was to show the different styles of filming that we have learnt and how we adapted it to our own filming.

Once we had put our preliminary video together we noticed that the shots we used were really good and that there lots of different types of shots, but the only problem we had was that there was quite a few pauses. This is something that we are going to need to work on so that our opening sequence does not have the same problem.

Perliminary Exercise

The preliminary exercise is just filming one person walking towards another person, sitting down and having a conversation with each other. (maximum time limit of 1 minute.)

What we must use/ consider:

  • Match on action

  • Two shot

  • Over the shoulder shot

  • Shot reverse shot

  • Follow 180 degree rule

  • Be conscious of continuity

Below is our Stroyboard for our Preliminary exercise.

Changes to Presentation

We made some changes to our first presentation like our storyboard, we went through it shot by shot trying to work out how the sequence would go.
So the slides below are just what we came up with for our storyboard. Mica drew out the pictures of how we described what we wanted it to be like and we all contributed.

First Group Presentation

This was our first group presentation.

This was our very first power point presentation as a group so after we presented it to Miss. we got some really good feed back on how we could improve it.

She gave us some ideas on ways we could shoot certain parts but also she talked about doing a chart to help us. The chart was based on conventions, what we would (use, challenge and develop).
Another thing that we discussed as a group was what other types of things were missing from our presentation like fonts/titles, music, more detail on inspiration, character, conventions settings and story board.

Further Group Work

Within our group each member has different strengths.

  • Jamilla - had a really good idea to which we were all able to build up on.

  • Adriana - had really good ideas we could add to the main idea.

  • Mica - is a good artist, so drawing the story board was her strong point.

  • (me) Victoria - had a good idea of the different kinds of sound to use (digetic/ non-digetic).

After talking about our ideas within our group we came to the decision that we would use Jamilla's idea of "Film Noir".

The main reason to which we came to this conclusion is that we realised with the help of our teacher that a "Film Noir" has not yet been done, so we thought it would be a good idea to try something new but to also challenge ourselves as filming a "Film Noir" could be difficult.

Group Work

On Tuesday the 10th of November, we got put into our groups.

my group members are:

  1. (me) Victoria

  2. Adriana

  3. Jamilla

  4. Mica

Each member of the group has different thoughts and ideas. What our group is trying to do is incorporate little parts from each our ideas to plan our one main idea.

We decided to use Jamilla's idea for her opening sequence as a foundation for us to begin to build up on it. After talking about it we each broke down what we could include in the opening sequence, so that we each have a part to play in creating our opening sequence to the main idea we came up with and we could each get a good mark within our group.

Presentation (2)

My second presentation was all about the films that influenced me and how they influenced me in creating my final idea. It also involved me talking about the idea i had chosen to make my opening sequence about and explaining it to the class, along with my storyboard. My storyboard was made up of images that i had put together to give the class an idea of what i wanted my opening sequence to look like.

The evaluation i got for my presentation was:

WWW:
  • I had good range of inspirational films.
  • I knew and pointed out potential filming problems.
  • I had a good understanding of the conventions within a horror genre.
  • I had a good balance between reading from the board and talking to the audience.

EBI:

  • I could have focused more on actual scenes from the films i talked about, not just the posters.
  • Storyboard was slightly confusing, should have added writing along the with pictures.
  • I generalised the purpose of my opening sequence, needed to talk more specifically.
  • The information on BBFC was not all correct.

As you can see from the above information, i had a lot of EBI's which resulted in me getting a very low grade of (E-).

Although i thought that the grade could have been a bit higher, i agree with the teacher, she knows what she is doing when it comes to marking my work.

However i am hoping to improve my presentation and showing it to her when she is available.

Media Presentation (1)

I did a media presentation in front of the class which included:
  • the syllabus
  • the history of film and genre
  • gave a brief description of an opening sequence.

A genre that i picked to do my presentation on was Horror. I gave a small explanation of what a Horror film is and what is incorporated horror film when filming.

Below is a small clip that i used to show how a horror scene was made when horror films were first released.

The shower scene from Psycho 1960

While i was doing my presentation my peers in my class had to evaluate my presentation.
I was then told what went well (WWW) and what could have been even better if (EBI) about my presentation.

I got the following comments for my WWW:

  1. The way i paused while showing the different types of genre that there were while showing pictures to go with it.

  2. I had a great horror film guide

  3. I had an excellent choice of the clip i chose to show as an example of a horror film.

  4. I have really good pace, while going through the presentation.

The comments i got for my EBI:

  1. There was some bits where i could have read of the broad because it sounded like i didn't really understand what i was saying but what was on the board sounded really good.

The grade i got for my presentation over all was a C+
