Third Draft of Opening sequence

Below is our Final Draft of our opening sequence.

I believe that our opening sequence is very good despite some pauses, but all in all we have come a long way since the start of the course and i think the girls in my group should be very proud because even though we had our differences we managed to come together to help each other when we need it the most.

Final stages

What we are trying to focus on right now id just getting everything together for our final draft, what is helping us do this is going over the feedback from the 2nd draft and just making sure we stick to it as best we can. This is something i believe will help us a lot because we need to work on things such as continuity and timing, making sure we get everything just right so that they are in sync with each other for our opening sequence to look the best it possibly can, so that we can achieve the best possible grade we can.

Things that we need to complete to help us with our task is;
  1. A new storyboard - just making sure that we have everything that we have changed on paper.
  2. Editing (music and titles)
  3. Planning for our evaluation questions
  4. Noting the process of our changes - so we know exactly where we are and what we are doing.

Feedback from Second Draft (during Half - Term)

Feedback that we got from Miss were things like;
  • Have a shot of Mica crossing her legs when she sits down with a til going up because this reinforces the convention of the femme fetale in a film noir.

  • Have an establishing shot of the diary (close-up).

  • Have a point of view shot of diary opening.

other things as well such as;

  • Make the deaths of the 3 men look like newspaper clipping.

  • When she opens the book show the time. (this will be 10 minutes to 4, as 4 will be the time the conversation between the femme fetale [Mica] and the investigator will take place).

  • Another change was that we should have the picture of the deaths in an envelope for the investigator also.

Below is the full structure of what the changes are.

Second Draft of Opening Sequence

Below is our completed second draft of our Openig Sequence.

Our second draft was due on the 31st of March, so right up unitl a day before we were working hard to make sure that we had tried to include everything from the feedback from our First Draft into our Second Draft so that we could improve it.

days before Second Draft of Opening Sequence is Due

Ok, so we only have a couple of days to get our second draft together.
so what we are going to do is film the investigators part so we can edit it in, then see where we are left with the rest of our filming.
From what i know Jamilla (Director) has told me that the part of the investigator takes up 1 minute of time in our opening sequence so herself and Adriana have managed to cut down the investigators scene so we can get more done within the 2 minute time that we are allowed for our opening sequence.

Jamilla brought in a small bottle (which is part of our props) for us to use as the bottle of poison of which the femme fetale (Mica) is planning on killing the investigator. She then found on the Internet a logo which allowed us to let the audience know what it was without using words to describe it.

While she did that myself and Adriana sorted the planning for how we could make the rest of the things we needed to film shorter. Changed we came up with were;
  • The femme fetale (Mica) opens the door straight away rather than walking toward the door and opening it. (which is one of the things that took up a lot of time also)
  • Having a close-up shot of Mica's footsteps toward the desk she will sit at.
  • Instead of a collage, we cold stick the images of the men in the diary which will give the connotations that it is a lot more personal, whereas a collage makes her seem as if she is just a random murderer and we want the audience to believe that she is in power and control.

What we have left to film is;

  1. The femme fetale (Mica) making the phone call to the investigator and having the conversation.
  2. The diary with the images of the deaths of the 3 men inside.

Feedback from First Draft

Some things that we go as feedback from both our teacher and fellow pupils in our class were that:
  • We should make it look less rehearsed (no long pauses)

  • Have longer shots

  • More visuals (in diary)

  • It didn't really capture the essence of film noir (try and stick to the theme of film noir conventions)

  • Have shorter cuts

  • Hold steady shots

Below are some targets that we came up with together for our group to help us improve for our second draft.

something that i (Victoria) was able to help with was finding a new location as the location we were using before was very far and we weren't able to be in there every day.

The new location is much closer and we can use it anytime after school for our filming which should not be a problem for anyone.

Job allocation in group

Within our groups we were told to choose a job that we would be in charge of.

The jobs were:

  • Director

  • First Assistant Director

  • Art Director - Props & Costumes and Continuity

  • Director of Photography

I choose the job of First Assistant Director.

After we all chose a job we made a power point presentation of each of our jobs and what we would have to do within our groups according to our jobs.
